70’s Style

Processed with VSCO with 6 preset

I’m a hippie at heart. I think that’s why I’m so obsessed with the 70s. All stylists have a decade they look to for constant inspiration and mine will forever be the 70s. The Grateful Dead, Fleetwood Mac, Steve Miller Band, The Rolling Stones, high rise denim, suede jackets, flared pants, fringe vests, Bowie! The list goes on and on. I love the vibe of the 70s and incorporate it into my outfits whenever I can. Granted, I rarely embrace full-blown ‘hippiedom’ unless I’m at Coachella; however, a day spent on Portobello Road seemed like the perfect opportunity to spread some peace and love.

This outfit is what I would’ve worn in the Fall during the 70s, hanging out on the corner of Haight and Ashbury in San Fran.

My top is Isabel Marant, a designer that I absolutely love because their pieces are always cool but effortless. Marant is for the modern hippie. I paired it with deconstructed denim (the only denim I seem to be wearing as of late) and my favourite Gianvitto booties. If you want to adopt one style form the 70s, I suggest trying a fur trimmed and embroidered vest. This piece of outerwear is as glamourous as it is cool and will elevate any outfit to ‘it’ girl status. Mine is Spell by Bryony Bay, which is only available to my readers Down Under, but for those of you State Side, I’ve picked some alternatives here, here and here.
