Sophia Kah is one of my absolute favourite emerging brands, captained by the fantastic Ana Teixeira, who I’m lucky to call my friend. Based between Portugal and London, Sophia Kah has earned its place in the closets of the fashion elite, with flattering, beautifully finished and ultra-feminine pieces.
By playing with subtle accents such as tulle and layered lace panelling, Sophia Kah has made wearing black tie elegant, sexy and spunky. While making it possible to wear luxe during the day, pair one of her dresses with an ankle boot (I opted for the Brandy ankle boot by Gianvito Rossi) and you are done! Simple as that!
I love all clothes, but pieces that do the work for me will always have a special place in my heart. Life stops for no-one, and whether you’ve overslept or just aren’t feeling the look you had already laid out, every girl needs that one dress they can throw on, day or night, and feel amazing. Sophia Kah is an expert in creating these dresses.
Over a glass of wine and some dim sum at Park Chinois in London, during one of our fun girly catch up’s I asked Ana some questions about designing Sophia Kah.
How did you start your line?
I’ve always loved fashion and I was born in the middle of fabrics and needles at my mother’s factory in Portugal. So it was a very natural and organic for me to pursue this career.
What kind of woman do you envision when designing Sophia Kah?
Strong minded, independent and mysterious. But most of all she loves to fun and to stand out not only for what she wears but also with her personality and on what she stands for. Check out the new collection (here).
Who has been your most proud red carpet moment?
Beyoncé! Who else? I couldn’t believe!!! The best part was that she bought the dress herself, to wear to her mother’s wedding, and I found out through the media…..it was magical! (see photos of Beyoncé in Sophia Kah here)
Who would you love to see wearing your designs?
That’s a difficult question because there are so many fabulous and inspiring women all over the world. But one woman that nowadays represents what I believe in is Amal Clooney. She’s simply amazing!
If you weren’t a designer, what other profession would you be?
Well, I love nutrition and everything related to health – is a subject that I find fascinating – the power of food , fitness and mind training on your overall wellbeing is incredible powerful!
