Just as much as I love to travel to new places and try new things, my goal is to attend every major sporting event around the world. I had just recently come back from attending the Tiebreak10 Tennis Tournament with Gregor when we were invited to attend The America’s Cup in Bermuda. With Gregor needing to stay back for work, I decided this was the perfect opportunity to turn this trip into a girls getaway with my mom and sister who reside in the states.
My friend, Alex Green, and his family recently acquired the legendary Hamilton Princess Bermuda Hotel or as the locals call it, “The Pink Palace.” Since it opened in 1885, it’s been the gem of the island attracting royalty and celebrities throughout the years. It was once the winter retreat for Princess Louise, the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria and a regular vacation spot for Mark Twain. Several major renovations later, the hotel has maintained its historic splendour while catering to world travellers and of course, the sailing elite for the America’s Cup. From the decadent art collection to stunning views of the island, sophistication and glamour oozed around every corner of this hotel. From watching the sailing event to the hotel’s impeccable service, the entire trip was incredible and such a special experience to share with the mom and sister. One moment still stands out the most – walking along the infamous pink sand beaches, something I have never seen before.
With strong links to the UK and US, I couldn’t get over the distinctive blend of British and American culture in Bermuda. We already have it in the diary to bring the kids along next year!
