Airplane travel was once super chic and fashionable, people dressed up to board a flight. In the 60’s and 70’s high fashion designers were commissioned for stewardess uniforms; Pucci and Halston for Braniff International, Pierre Balmain for TWA, Oleg Cassini for Air West – the sky was the limit.
Today, sweatpants and jeans worn with a pair of sneakers are the norm for travel. Your most stylish look is likely packed away in your suitcase ready for wear upon landing at your destination. However, comfort and style can blend for a cozy and chic flight.
My go-to outfit for cooler weather travel destinations in the fall and winter is this cashmere matching top and bottom, a major upgrade from the one I owned in the 90’s from Juicy. Cashmere??! You may be thinking, why would I wear something on the plane that requires dry cleaning straight after wear? Wrong, cashmere should be hand washed with a bit of Woolite and laid flat to dry. So, head to toe cashmere is just as good as a t-shirt and pair of jeans – wash and wear again.
